Poetry
PowerPoint Project

Poetry PowerPoint Directions
  • pick a poem
  • story board -write lines-consider images (sketch)
  • brainstorm search words for each slide
  • Google images for each slide
  • type all the lines onto ppt slides
  • add images to each slide that illustrate meaning
  • add animation
  • review with rubric
  • prepare to sign your poem

Pick poem and read it several times.

Break up the lines of the poems into visual concepts. Use the poem’s punctuation as a guide for where natural shifts in images occur. Write the group lines of the poem onto a story board.Storyboard.pdf(You need at least 9 visual images or breaks for 9 separate slides of the actual poem to meet the requirement of the final project.)

Write lines of the poem as you have divided it on to the lines on the story board. As you write them, think about if the breaks are in the best place. Make changes as needed.

Now review each slide’s lines and consider what image you want to illustrate those lines. Visualize an image in the box above the lines. Come up with search words you can use to find the image you want. (You may use the box to sketch an image or write in your search words.) Create a list of search words you will use to find your images. Don’t limit yourself to the words of the poem. The best search word may not be a word from the lines of the poem. Have at least one search word for each slide before you go to the next step.

Use your search words to find pictures.

When you find a image that is not exactly what you wanted, save it in folder on your computer, and continue to search. If you find a better image later you can discard the other. Find at least two or three images that are possibilities for each slide.

After you have a good group of images, you may open the PowerPoint program.

The first thing to do is to type the lines, as you group them by images, on the slide before inserting any images. After all the lines have been type in, you may start adding images to your slides.

When working on a slide think about what animation you want. Let me know what your ideas are. If you cannot figure out how to create what you want let me know and I will help.

When you think your are finished, review with rubric.
